In April, I attended a content day for wedding photographers at TRICA in Boise, Idaho—a place that looks like a castle from the outside and feels just as inspiring inside. TRICA (short for Treasure Valley Institute for Children’s Arts) is tucked into the heart of Boise’s Hyde Park, and it was the perfect setting for a day of creativity, connection, and beauty.
Hana of Salt & Sand Photos did a phenomenal job organizing the event. This shoot quickly became one of my favorites—not just because the details were stunning, but because it’s so life-giving to connect with others in the wedding world. I think people assume photographers are competing for clients, but the truth is we actually get along really well! And this was the first styled shoot where I got to meet the florist, hair and makeup artists, the baker, and the owner of the bridal shop that loaned us the gown. I love getting to meet other creatives face-to-face!
This was more than a styled shoot—it felt more like community. As Katie from Bloom Room Floral added the final touches to her gorgeous pieces, I snapped a few behind-the-scenes shots. She told me she rarely gets images of herself working, and I felt blessed to offer something meaningful back to her, just by doing what I love.
Styled shoots often feel rushed. Not this one. We had time to slow down, connect, and collaborate a whole new level. Having the florist, hair and makeup artists, baker, and bridal boutique owner there with us made this shoot more like a shared creative effort than checking off items on a shot list. Our models, Victor and Meghan, are an engaged couple who will be getting married (for real!) later this year. Capturing their authentic reactions was a joy, and they were so gracious to us all. Hana made sure everyone had a chance to get certain shots and angles we wanted. We took our time photographing the cake, reception table, rings, stationery, and ceremony set up. Then we turned our attention to Victor and Meghan cutting the cake and pouring a real champagne tower! I myself hadn’t witnessed a champagne tower pouring before. Needless to say, we were all thrilled when it worked flawlessly!
The timeless black and white aesthetic perfectly suited the historic charm of TRICA. The gown, provided by Stephanie of BB Bridal, was the embodiment of classic elegance with a modern twist. Sweetheart Manor made sure Victor looked sharp in his tuxedo. Our bride Meghan was absolutely radiant, without looking orange at all, thanks to Glow Tan Co. and Hanna Taylor Beauty. Meghan’s timeless updo was masterfully done by Artistry by Brooke. Mihaela of Dulcerella created a work of art with her white cake adorned with with sugar flowers and a stunning pattern. Victor and Meghan testified that it tasted delicious, too! Bee & Bungalow crafted an entire invitation suite–I loved how they had Victor and Meghan’s real names on it!–as well as dinner menus and custom labels for the champagne bottles. Made by Mary provided the black, gold, and pearl jewelry. I think we can all agree that nothing says timeless and sophisticated quite like pearls. Katie and Bloom Room Floral team put in a lot of work with their impressive ceremony installations, Meghan’s bridal bouquet, reception table centerpiece, cake table florals, cascade of baby’s breath over the champagne tower table, and other arrangements that beautified the space. Flying China and Blush Creek Rentals brought the reception tables to life (why has it taken this long for black flatware to catch on?!). And capping everything off, the cocktails and champagne tower were the work of Liberty Homestead Mobile Bar. It was incredible to see everyone’s individual contributions come together cohesively.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the other wedding photographers present, all from the Boise area. Everyone came with a mindset of community over competition. It’s true that many of us have very similar images of the same day. However, I found it fascinating to see the subtle differences in our unique approaches. After the event was over, I was stalking everyone else on Instagram like, “Wow, that one’s so pretty!” and “Ooh, I didn’t think to get a shot of the cake from that angle! I’ll have to try that next time!”
I drove home from this shoot not just creatively inspired, but personally encouraged. There’s something powerful about being surrounded by people who get it—who pour their hearts into what they do and want to support each other along the way. Whether it’s for a wedding day or a styled shoot, the most rewarding work flows out of real connection.
If you’re planning a wedding in Boise (or beyond!) and want a photographer who values meaningful connection and creating space for you to feel fully you—I’d be honored to document your day.
And to my fellow creatives: if you’re looking for images of your work, or simply want to collaborate and cheer each other on, I’d love to connect.
Epic ceremony location, no?!
This is Meghan smiling at Victor while we were taking the above photo of him! 🙂
Florals at the cocktail bar.
The TRICA building is so gorgeous! The white walls and ceilings reflected the natural light beautifully.
How…is that even possible? All those little dots? I’m speechless.
Custom champagne labels there on the right, which matched the typography from the invitations and dinner menu, of course:
Here goes nothing!
Hooray! No glasses fell over and we didn’t get champagne everywhere!
Tee hee
Here’s a closer look at Meghan’s beautiful rings. Fun fact: on the perfume bottle, “by Anthropologie” is in the typeface called Mrs. Eaves.
My degree is in graphic design, so I was in love with the way this script paired beautifully with the vintage-inspired serif! Not gonna lie–I’m obsessed with white lettering on colored envelopes.
Wax seal? Yes, please!
And now for some behind-the-scenes images! Here’s Katie, making sure everything is absolutely perfect.
Jacque was there to make sure Meghan’s dress was fluffed just right.
Taking turns holding the veil so we could each get the shot.
Hanna was on hand to make any necessary touch ups to Meghan’s makeup.
With a small group of us, we had plenty of time and space to make sure we each captured everything, without getting in each other’s shots.
Here’s Meghan sharing a smile with each person so that we all had some images with her looking at our camera.
Getting ready to cut the cake, for reals!
Stephanie, of course, is an expert dress fluffer and train carrier.
Hana and Katie getting everything in place before we attempted the champagne pour.
Getting all the glasses filled evenly.
Hooray! The champagne tower is a success!
